Your Favourite Rugs of 2021

Your Favourite Rugs of 2021

Part One: Your Favourite Moroccan Rugs of the Year

If 2020 was the year we stayed in, 2021 was the year we redecorated, renovated, and moved. After all, home is where the heart is, and in 2021, we discovered that as much as our homes are our office, school, daycare, restaurant, and gym, they are our personal sanctuary – a place to rest, to dream, to recharge, to create, to live.

This past year was unprecedented for growth in the furniture and design industry. Consumers who had expendable income were now investing it in their homes, and rug investment certainly was a part of the buying trend. Yet, while many companies were caught in the global supply chain backlog, The Boho Lab flew in our magic carpets regularly from Morocco as the company, and the country, had its’ highest demands ever for its national export.

So, what rugs captivated your heart? What Moroccan beauties did you want to bring into your home? After analyzing the clicks, saves, likes, and hearts, we now know what rugs you loved most in 2021, and it was all about being cozy. Our 100% wool, hand knotted Beni Ourain, Mrirt, and Mguild pile rugs were king, or queen! Produced by the Berbers in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, these rugs are the foundation of the country’s rich and decorative heritage. One of the most beautiful reasons for purchasing a Moroccan rug is that your purchase supports whole communities as it truly does take a village to create these works of art. From the farmers who shepherd the sheep, to the weavers who create the art, to the families who cut, wash and ship the rugs, The Boho Lab is so proud to be able to share their stories and creations with you.

Always Timeless. Always Classic. Always Beautiful.

These are your Top Five Moroccan Rugs of 2021:

1. CLASSIC BENI OURIAN (WW277) – SOLD OUT

Beni Ourain Moroccan Rug

Your most loved rug for 2021 is this classic, yet one-of-a-kind, Beni Ourain rug (WW277). Hand knotted in Morocco’s Atlas Mountains, this 100% wool, pile rug takes the classic Beni Ourain colours and textures, and shakes it up with a modern design (traditional Beni Ourain rugs feature diamond motifs woven into the background). The Beni Ourain rug is the rug that captured the heart of interior designers around the world and catapulted Moroccan rugs to icon status in the interior design community.

2. THE EVER SO LUXURIOUS BENI MRIRT RUG (FF250) - AVAILABLE

Beni Mrirt Moroccan Rug

Beni Mrirt Moroccan Rugs are the epitome of cozy and chic. What elevates this rug above the rest is, in fact, its elevation. The sheep, whose fine wool is used for this style of rug, are found in the High Atlas Mountain regions of Morocco, where they produce a finer and softer wool, compared to the other regions. This means more knots per square inch, which results in a much softer rug pile. The soft gray colour for this rug works so well in today’s modern esthetic. Pair this with warm woods, cool greens and soft neutrals to create the ultimate sanctuary.

3. BLUSH PINK BENI MRIRT (EE222) - AVAILABLE

4. GRAPHIC AND BOLD BENI MRIRT RUG (FF459) - AVAILABLE

Black Beni Mrirt Rug

Grey is still going strong. It’s become a classic neutral that has proven to stand the test of time, and this rug proves just that. Encompassing various tones of grey throughout its design, this stunner creates a strong anchor point to any room with its contrasting tones and bold pattern.

5. VINTAGE BENI MGUILD MOROCCAN RUG (VS050) – SOLD OUT

This Beni Mguild rug is a play on pattern that you typically find on a flat weave rug, that is adapted it to a hand-knotted, high pile creation. The Berber tribes are known for infusing their rugs with rich imagery and symbolism, and this rug beautifully showcases the richness of Morocco.
